A 1926 Neighborhood On McGregor Boulevard
Edison Park was platted in January 1926 and named for its famous neighbor, Thomas Edison. Edison's winter estate and Henry Ford's home sit across McGregor Boulevard from the neighborhood. A fountain entrance on McGregor Boulevard was dedicated on April 7, 1926.
The streets curve instead of following a grid, and the neighborhood still uses street lights and signs in its 1926 design. Of the 23 original Arcadian-style lights, 16 remained by 2016, and LED replicas were installed in 2017. The City of Fort Myers recognizes an Edison Park Historic District, and lighting and curbing standards for it were approved in 1998.
The original 1926 deed restrictions called for Moorish, Spanish, and Italian architecture or an American modification of those styles. Most lots were laid out for single-family homes. The Edison Park Neighborhood Association represents residents.
Older Platting, Newer Pipes And Fixtures
A neighborhood platted in 1926 tells you little about any one house, because homes here have been built, rebuilt, and remodeled across nearly a century. We check what is installed in your home instead of assuming from the date of the plat.
General plumbing note: roots can enter a buried sewer or drain line anywhere a large tree grows nearby. If one drain keeps slowing down while the others run fine, a camera inspection is a better next step than another round of drain cleaner.
Plumbing work is governed by the Florida Building Code, Plumbing, which is based on the International Plumbing Code (IPC), and many jobs can require a permit from the building department. Ask any contractor whether a permit will be pulled and who is responsible for it.
